Evaluation Q7

Check out my story on Steller: https://steller.co/s/5cG38AXHvf7

Here are some similarities and differences between our preliminary and main.

For our preliminary title we didn't think a lot about it; it was pretty simple and had no effect. For the main there was a lot of thought because we planned on making an anagram - so we needed a word(s) that could convert into another word(s). This was probably the part that took the longest because there were no tutorials on how to switch the titles around.

We decided to keep the same name for the company because we couldn't think of any other. Plus the name became quite catchy. For the preliminary the title just fades in and out. For the main it shatters! I thought this was more effective and pulls in the audience.

I liked the shot of the foot we did in our preliminary so I copied it in the main. However, in the main I felt it would be more effective if the title was being stood on. I wanted to do this in the preliminary but I didn't know how to use After Effects. I also used mud because I thought it would look more striking - due to a footprint being left behind.

Evaluation Q6

I forgot to mention about the ghosting effect in my animaker. This sounded complicated to me, however it was really easy. All I had to do was copy the clip, delay it a little and then make it slightly opaque. This gave the effect of her being delusional.
I also didn't mention the scrambled titles. I got the influence of this from se7en. This fitted well because it represented how Iyra's mind is scrambled. For this I followed a Youtube tutorial that only took me 2 minutes.

For the start of the year I feel like I've made so much progress. I think the main reason for this was the extra time I put in at lunch times and after school. I feel more comfortable with the equipment I am using and therefore can complete tasks quicker than when I first started. Hopefully I will keep learning into A2.

I'm looking forward to developing my skills in A2 and using more editing techniques. A music video will let me experiment more because of the different scenes with different situations happening. I've already started thinking about what I want to do next year, and am planning to take my camcorder on holiday to try and get some good shots. I've played a large role in my group for our thriller, next year I'll try to let my team do more or teach them some editing techniques. They also want me to have a go at the acting next time which I'm not looking forward to.

Evaluation Q4&5

Class feedback from niamhbarrett

Reflecting on this feedback
I actually didn't think our thriller was that good but hearing all the feedback has made me feel a lot better. I was expecting more people to comment on it not being realistic.
The shot where Rae knocks it over is some peoples favourite part. This was done by accident but I decided to add it in anyway. We actually thought we had broke the camera at first.
Someone else's favourite bit was the flashes. Personally this was my worst part. I only kept this clip in to show that I could use more editing techniques.
One of the improvements was to have steadier titles - this was actually done on purpose; I did a motion track of one. I originally had two moving titles, however I ditched the one used when the leaf was blowing. This was because the title was going all over the screen, no matter how many times I changed the point of focus.

Sorry for looking morbid and a mess.

Here is Dan and Alex's reaction.

We filmed this on Rae's phone and she edited out some of the bits where I was laughing/messed up. #welldoneRaeproudofyou and the questions could have been planned better, but overall a good piece of feedback. Thanks guys!  p.s. I didn't pay them.

Evaluation Q2

Evaluation:Q2 from niamhbarrett

We used a high angle shot of Iyra when she is tied up. We did this to show she is vulnerable and trapped. Later we used a high angle shot to show her dominance and her manipulating power over her victim. The two different shot types represent that Iyra can have two sided, sort of like a normal person, however Iyra's mood changes can be more drastic that others and uncontrolled. This could also represent the affect of women on society and how they have become more influential.

Evaluation Q1

Applied to Propp's character types

This was the closest to a squirrel.

Applied to Barthes narrative codes.
I accidentally deleted the first one I did - that sounded soo much better than this.

I think our thriller contrasts with Toderov theory. I feel like our film would start on a climax then dip to equilibrium and then rise again. This is because the opening starts off with a kill...or does it? Then the film would flashback to Iyra's morals, then finally show after the incident.

equipment used

To film our thriller we used a DSLR and tripod. We were going to use a gopro but when we tested it out and uploaded it, the quality of the video was bad. Looking back now, this probably could have been changed. We also took out a voice recorder, however, we had some problem working out how to use it. To make it work we needed a memory card - which I took out my phone not thinking about the compatibility and format. So when I put the memory card back into my phone all my pictures and data had been lost... However I was able to get most photos back off of Google.
All of our shots didn't use a tripod. This was done to show instability and unsettlement.
